Stranda in the Middle Ages

Stranda in the Middle Ages

Stranda consisted of the parishes of Ålem and Mönsterås in the municipality of Mönsterås as well as of the parish of Döderhult in the municipality of Öskarshamn. (The parish of Fliseryd belonged to Handbörd).

Stranda is the coastal strip in the region of Handbörd.

During late Iron Age, Stranda was a part of Handbörd. During the early Middle Ages it became a region of its own and continued to be so during the entire Middle Ages.

Stranda belonged to Kalmar Castle County and the inhabitants paid taxes to the bailiff at Kalmar Castle.

The council had its seat in Mönsterås.
