Aspeland in the Middle Ages

Aspeland in the Middle Ages

During the Middle Ages, Aspeland consisted more or less of what we now know as the municipality of Hultsfred, as well as the greater part of the parish of Kristdala (the northern part of this parish belonged to Sevede).

At first, Aspeland was called Åsbo-land. The name means the land of the people who lived on the ridges on both sides of the Emå River.

During the Middle Ages, Aspeland belonged to Kalmar Castle County and was controlled by the bailiff at Kalmar Castle.

The District Court had its seat in Målilla.
