To the peasants of Aspeland, Vimmerby was the nearest town. It was not very large, but it had a market-place and was a busy commercial centre. Here one could sell produce from the farms and perhaps fur as well. The peasants could return home with foreign goods which had been shipped to Vimmerby from Figeholm: salt, spices, cloth, wine and beer.
