Good and Evil

Good and Evil

In the Middle Ages, people were Christians and firmly believed that God had created the world and was part of everything that happened on earth. He was everywhere - at home, at the tavern, at work and at church. God was a part of life and represented good. But all things evil, such as wars, violence and cruel actions were also considered to be part of life. In the world, good and evil, God and the Devil, were fighting. Every person had the possibility to choose between the two. They could do good, if they wanted to. By praying, attending services and confessingtheir sins, God gave them power to continue to do good.

The people in the Middle Ages were very much aware of the contradictions in life - good and evil, God and the Devil, Heaven and Hell, workdays and holidays.

No one was ever alone. One was always part of a context, one ´s family, the farm, the village or the church. In addition, the saints were always at your side to give guidance. It was important that you led your life as well as possible, in the way God had intended for you.
