As the aristocracy increased its political influence during the 14th century, many noblemen chose to fortify their manors or to build strongholds. Examples of such strongholds are Påbonäs and Kungsborgen (Grisbäck) in the parish of Söderåkra. On the borders of Möre and Värend lie the remnants of another manor house; Rostocks Holme in the parish of Algutsboda. It may have belonged to the Bishop of Växjö.
