Birgitta Birgersdotter

Birgitta Birgersdotter

Birgitta Birgersdotter had her main Småland residence at Hagelsrum in the parish of Målilla. Birgitta owned a lot of property in this part of the country. She probably went to Hagelsrum every once in a while to make sure that her bailiff was managing the estate properly. Birgitta lived in Sweden until 1349. In this year she moved to Rome.

No doubt a lot of tales were told about the extraordinary Birgitta, who claimed to have revelations of God. When the bailiff came to collect taxes or to re-write the deeds, the farmers certainly would have heard the latest news of Birgitta, of what she had said or done.
