The contacts between town and country were lively. Town dwellers bought agricultural products, wood and raw materials for their crafts when the peasants came to the markets in town. The peasants bought merchandise from the town craftsmen and foreign goods like fabrics, spices and salt from the merchants. The noblemen lived both in the town and in the country.
