The letter of honour

The letter of honour

"King Erik is elected our and their and all these three kingdoms ยด rightful King and Master".

On June 17, Erik was crowned King of Sweden and Denmark. A few years earlier, he had become the King of Norway. In a beautiful letter, written on parchment, he was honoured by 67 bishops, priests and noblemen from all the Nordic countries. They signed the letter with their seals. The seals were used as a kind of signature, and everyone had their own, personal seal. At the age of 15, Erik was now the King of the largest kingdom in Europe. The letter of honour describes the occasion:

"Then, by the grace of God, King Erik was crowned in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, to become, with the help of God, the King of Denmark, Norway and Sweden."
