The Catholic Church

The Church was a natural part of medieval society. It offered spiritual guidance as well as health care. The Church had schools and hospices. Large churches and monasteries would have skilled craftsmen and farmers working for them. Members of the clergy arranged meetings and wrote documents. They helped people with their wills or other legal affairs. From cradle to grave, people were in close contact with the Church.

The Church was quite an international organisation which brought people and countries together. The Church also gave people a shared view of the essential things in life.
