The boy who was burnt by fire

"Johan in Särby, in the parish of Munktorp in the diocese of Västerås had a little son who fell into the fire. The boy got bad burns on his face, chest, hands and arms. His burns were so terrible, that he looked like a lump of coal. The parents were devastated - the boy was not even seven years old. Life was so hard - would they now lose their son as well? The father prayed with all his heart and promised to visit the shrine of God ´s servant St. Birgitta, if his son ´s life was saved. Within a few days, the boy was completely restored to health. His father told us this on Ascension Day, June 12, 1379. Herr Lars, vice-priest of the parish and Håkan in Sandstad from the same parish, have witnessed these events."

This event from a peasant ´s cottage in central Sweden in June 1376, has been taken from a book by Myrdal/Börnhielm, "Kvinnor, barn och fester i medeltida mirakelberättelser."
