Meet the Middle Ages

Sweden

Sweden Sweden was sparsely populated during the middle Ages. A little more than half of the peasants owned their farms; they were freeholders. As you can see on the map, Sweden had other boundaries than today. For example, Finland belonged to Sweden. The Hanseatic League and the German merchants dominated the trade on the Baltic Sea. St. Birgitta (Bridget in English) was a woman with great influence on many people in Sweden and in Europe during the Middle Ages.
