Livonia

Livonia Livonia consisted of large parts of present-day Estonia and all Lithuania. In the Middle Ages, Livonia was a very important region in eastern Europe. It was controlled by the Teutonic Knights. A lot of German merchants and noblemen lived there. They owned most of the land and the peasants had to work hard for their livelihood. Riga was the main town. German merchants and the Hanseatic League traded with Visby, Kalmar and the towns on the German Baltic coast.
