Birgitta Birgersdotter

Birgitta Birgersdotter

Birgitta Birgersdotter had plenty of property in Aspeland and Sevede. Her main Småland residence was at Hagelsrum, in the parish of Målilla, in the hundred of Aspeland. Probably she went to Hagelsrum every once in a while to make sure that her bailiff was managing the estate properly. Birgitta lived in Sweden until 1349. In this year she moved to Rome.

No doubt a lot of tales were told about the extraordinary Birgitta who claimed to have revelations of God. When the bailiff came to collect taxes or to re-write the deeds, the farmers certainly would have heard the latest news of what Birgitta had said or done.
