Kalmar Town

Kalmar Town

Kalmar was one of Sweden ´s largest towns during the Middle Ages. The people of Sevede would certainly have travelled there once in a while. When the big free-market was held once a year, at the end of August - St. Bartholomew ´s, a lot of people would come to town. One just followed the path that led south-wards.

In Kalmar, trade flourished, and there were crowds of people. Here you could buy exclusive spices, cloth and wines from other countries.

The huge castle and church must have impressed the peasants from Sevede.
