Several noble families owned land on Öland. However, most of them did not live there permanently. Sir Vicke van Vitzen the Elder had a manor house in Risinge in the parish of Mörbylånga. At the same time, Vicke was bailiff at Kalmar Castle.
Another nobleman, Sir Erik Ummereise owned land in the middle part of Öland. The councillor Nils Turesson Bielke owned several estates, mainly in the northern part of Öland. Sometimes he would stay at his fortified manor in Vedborm, just to the north of Löttorp.
