Vicke van Vitzen, the Elder, (pronounced Ficke fan Fitzen) was the bailiff at Kalmar Castle from 1366 to 1389. He had great power and consequently lots of influence on life in Möre and on Öland. Normally, Vicke would stay at the castle but he also owned a manor on Öland which was called Risinge and lay in the parish of Mörbylånga. Together with his relatives he owned the stronghold at Påbonäs in the parish of Söderåkra as well.
Many peasants paid their taxes to Vicke. He owned around 20 farms in Möre. These lay in the parishes of Hagby, Halltorp, Hossmo, Ljungby, Mortorp, Söderåkra and Voxtorp. On Öland he owned farms in the parishes of Vickleby and Resmo as well as his own manor house in Risinge.
Vicke lost his life when fighting for King Albrekt at the battle of Falköping in 1389. His namesake and nephew - Vicke van Vitzen the younger - sold most of his land to Queen Margareta in 1391.
