Johan the turner settled in Kalmar in 1449. In the annual ("Tänkeboken") it does not say where he lived, nor where he had his work-shop. All day long Johan ´s lathe would be turning as he made his dishes and bowls as well as the distaffs one needed when spinning wool. Dishes and bowls were needed by everyone in town, so no doubt business was brisk at his shop.
