Vesa borg

On the Lyckeby River, not far from the church at Vissefjärda, there was a large fortified manor house called Vesa borg. Just like Rostocks Holme, Vesa borg was part of the great estate acquired by Bishop Tomas in Växjö around the middle of the 14th century. He made the acquisition in order to control trade between Växjö and the coast of Blekinge. Old tales tell us that a German bailiff once lived here. It has also been told that the fortress once was attacked and burned down. This may possibly have happened at the beginning of the 15th century.
