Möre in the Middle Ages

Möre in the Middle Ages

During the Middle Ages Möre consisted of what is now known as the municipalities of Kalmar, Torsås, Nybro (except the parish of Kråksmåla, which belonged to Handbörd) and the eastern parts of the parish of Vissefjärda in the municipality of Emmaboda ( the western-most parts of the parish of Vissefjärda – Kåraböket, the parish of Algutsboda and the parish of Långasjö, belonged to the district of Värend). Early on, Möre was divided into a northern and a southern part.

The centre of Möre was Kalmar.

Möre means "wooded wetlands". During the Middle Ages the region had plenty of forests and marshes.
