We read in the Town Law of Magnus Eriksson:
"The appointed Chief Magistrate or Councillor must make this vow: I pray to God to help me, by the sacred objects on which I place my hand I promise that I will be faithful to my King and, to rich and poor alike, always make fair judgements and never do wrong against my conscience and against the law, never twist law or power unjustly, neither from fear, partiality or greed, nor from jealousy, malice, from ties of kinship or friendship. So help me God, I swear the truth."
A councillor had to be fair and just to all people in his decisions and judgements.
